About

collageHello!

My name is Carolyn.  I am 29 years old, married for 1 year, with 1 cat and 2 dogs. I work as an instructional designer with a government contractor in Virginia and sometimes do consulting work on the side.

I love to read, watch TV (a LOT), go to the movies, and eat good food.

I started this blog to help encourage myself and others through the weight loss and maintenance journey.  I began WeightWatchers in 2005 and lost 30 lbs.  I kept most of it off until the past year or so became a struggle so I re-committed myself to losing the weight for good.  I would like to lose a total of 20 lbs.  Check out the Progress page for current stats.

I enjoy working out, especially strength training.  I’ve recently discovered that I can actually enjoy running, too, but find that I can’t do it often because it is very hard on my body.  I have scoliosis which causes one side of my body to take on more of the impact.  I had surgery as a teenager to correct this to a degree, but I am still at around a 20 degree curvature.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog and I look forward to hearing from you. :)

  8. Hi Carolyn.

I too have scoliosis, but never had the corrective surgery. So far so good as the curvature hasn’t caused me any pain or injuries. Have you ever taken any yoga for scoliosis classes? I haven’t, but would love to at some point.

PS I’m in VA as well! :)

    • Hi! Most people have some degree of curvature, but they don’t do surgery unless it continues to get worse and possible threaten to impose on other organs. Glad to hear you haven’t had any complications. I have done yoga (not much lately) but not one specifically for people with scoliosis. Where have you seen that?
P.S. We’re not far from each other 90 minutes or so. We should have a race/breakfast meetup sometime with Rebekah and Sammi (in Suffolk).

  9. i would LOVE to meet up! keep me posted!

  10. I am a bit late in responding, but I’d love to meet up as well! Just let me know when you’d like to.
